Enron Deserves Thorough Investigation
The Honorable Bernie Sanders
The Enron corporation has hurt a lot of people. It appears that they have swindled investors, caused many of their employees to lose their retirement benefits and have driven up electric rates in California with disastrous and costly results.
It also seems that they have had an unusual degree of access to the Bush administration, which may have resulted from the millions of dollars in campaign contribution they have made.

I wonder how Enron got in the door, while environmental groups who want to move this country to safe and sustainable forms of energy were unable to gain access to Administration energy planners.
The Enron debacle is an example of how a group of powerful business leaders exert enormous clout over elected officials and get the rules changes in their favor.
It suggests to us that people who want safe and sustainable energy are not the ones who are making energy policy for this country, as opposed to those corporations who want to make enormous and quick profits.
Among many other things, the Enron situation is a very clear example as to why Congress must pass strong campaign finance reform.
Big Money interests like Enron cannot be allowed to have stranglehold influence over the public policy of this country.
